Gold Prospecting in Focus
We always read articles about focus and being in the zone when gold prospecting and metal detecting. What about being out of the zone and de-focusing? Surely if all that focus and zoning in has some benefit then de-focusing and zoning out does too.
So what I am talking about, its simple, walking away for a weekend or two. Go and do something different like taking pictures, hiking, exploring, just leave the equipment home and free your mind. There is an old saying, "Free your mind and your ass will follow". I've found that to be very true. We all get into skunks and ruts, its part of the game. The trick is knowing when to just take a break. You'll be amazed to the huge benefit you get from it. Go camping, forget about gold.
I've found that over the years when I return to the gold fields after a a few week break I'm more focused, more on and more in the zone than I could have been by trying to force it. Being relaxed is a huge key to success. Your cares and worries of needing or wanting success melt away and things come more natural. Let your partner detect up that new wash ahead of you, who cares, neither of you can cover it all and chances are he'll miss a target or two anyway and maybe only run the wash and forget the benches. When drywashing or panning you'll see more of the cherry spots.
De-focus and zone out, relax a little and enjoy the hunt.
