Sluice Box Keene High Production Hand Sluice

The sluice box is one of the best methods to recover gold and its relaxing to hear the water and good exercise. For the most part a commercial sluice box is just that a sluice box. You shovel the material in and the water flow separates the gold. It works on the fact that gold is heavier than water and will sink to the bottom of the sluice and get trapped and slowed down by the matting and riffles. I sure miss sluicing in Arizona. You can only run a sluice box when it rains in most parts of the states these days but if you can get out and get into the gold with one I highly recommend it. You can move many times more material and work it down to concentrates faster than panning. Below is a picture of BBQ Bob and I on Cow Creek on a private mining claim in the mid 1990s using a sluice, click to enlarge the photo. Bob has the sluice and is settling it in the flow of the water near a gold producing bank.
