Riding into Crown King 2-3-2007

Crown King, Arizona, a high country destination at about 6,200 feet elevation in the Bradshaw Mountains, attracts people from nearby Phoenix like a magnet during the summer. People come for fun now. In the old days the people came for the gold.

It was Juy 4th 1870 that prospectors discovered gold and silver. Soon miners began staking claims in the Bradshaw Mountains. Many mines including the Crowned King Mine, the Cougar, the Del Pasco, ,the Oro Belle, the Tiger and Gladiator were established. Many fires have scorched the town but the Saloon has always been saved.

The historic town can reached from I-17, Lake Pleasant (4x4) and Prescott (4X4). Several miles to the south east of the town lies Horsetheif Lake.

The town has about 100 full time residents, a General Store, a Bar, and a Restraunt named The Mill. The large Stamp Mill inside the restraunt is from the nearby Gladiator Mine.
