Secondary pinpointer machine?

Can't decide and want a backup "analog"(manual knob dials NOT a digital push pad) machine in the goldfields for "pinpointing" while digging for my Minelab GP 3000 gold nugget machine after I have found a target first. In other words, after the nugget has already been found, wanting a pinpointer.

Can you help me make a choice please for a backup pinpointer for gold nuggets in the goldfields.

No I do not mean and do not want one of those very small "rod shaped" pinpointers but instead want a regular round coil(elliptical) machine.

Because I have very large size 25" NuggetFinder round Mono and 20"x40" DD coils(these huge coils are not good for pinpointing) AND need a secondary round(or elliptical) coil pinpointer to do the finishing job after the signal has already been detected, partially dug in the hole, or marked on top of the ground. So I am clear about this, I do not need a primary VLF gold prospecting unit, just a secondary pinpointer, thank you in advance for your help!

P.S. I though of a Bounty Hunter Junior-Fast Tracker-Tracker II-Tracker IV, Tesoro Compadre-Silver Umax-Vaquero-Lobo, Fisher 1212-Gold Bug 2, Garrett Scorpion-Infinium LS, Minelab Muskateer Advantage-Sovereign GT-Eureka Gold, or what ??? I was thinking the simplier the better. Some of these are primary units and that is not needed, just a secondary pinpointer...

BB
no answer, but another possibility
have a 4000 w/big coils, I cannot get close to anything
I did not want to pack around another detector, even a hand-held one
my (unproven) solution was the Coiltech pinpointer which is inserted into the line to the big coil
the 'problem' is a jungle of cables - not that there aren't already with a hip stick, bungee cord, etc.

I'm now in TX so have no real way to test - anyone used the Coiltech unit ?

Bill

EDIT Saw you don't want a probe

I have been considering this for some time http://www.akmining.com/cart/mimfalcon.htm
It's the Falcon Gold Probe it may fit the bill

Why not just carry a CT Joey or 8 inch ML in your backpack hydropack? When I go large (over 18) that's what I do but then again I most use 14 rounds or 17 eliptical coils and never need a pin pointer for those sizes.

To use those big coils a lot I'm guessing you're hunting some pretty flat areas primarily.

AZScott mentioned a vlf unit to me that makes a nice small carry around detector once cut down that might would work well, maybe he'll chime in.

I have not tried the CT in-line probe. You're right, so many cables and gadgets and heavy batteries with these PI Minelabs, but they ARE the best though! I have often thought of buying the PI Garrett Infinium LS sometimes for a simplicity of a light machine for light duty work and for travel. I was told by someone today that a person is taking one to Bolivia. Light for airline travel packed in the baggage.

...another one to consider...

Yes I have a 5x10 NF mono but I would have to change coils to use it as a pinpointer which is time consuming.

Gerry in Boise in the past had a Tesoro Silver Umax with a very short, cut down shaft with about a 4" coil on it for this very purpose of a pinpointer. I hope the attachment works as you can see it then.

I still want a lightweight analog turn knob machine for pinpointing and still deciding...

This is how to cut down on wires and gadgets on the Minelab PI's.

Mounted on a GP Extreme and the grey box battery is from Miners Den in Melbourne. This small 1/2 day battery is mounted on the side of the control box then a speaker can be shaft mounted. Cuts big time down on wires when the battery and speaker are mounted as shown here in the attachment....

I do not know if these control box mounted batteries are available here? (Individual battery here.)
http://www.minersden.com.au/default.asp?pa...810&site=15

Does anyone know if these are available here?

Quote, "These batteries only weigh 408 grams each so you hardly know they are there. When they are attached to your control box, there is no reason to wear the back pack." (Complete kit here.)
http://www.minersden.com.au/default.asp?pa...811&site=15

That would be a dream. An all self contained Minelab PI with no external wires.

Beer Beeper have you looked into the pocket rocket batteries? Link.

If you use the search command you may a few post about going wireless.

Hey BB, years back I wanted to a find a solution to the same problem. I bought the coiltek probe and inline switch. The switch allows you to connect two coils at the same time and then switch between the two as need. Needless to say, it was pretty cumbersome (for me) and after swinging the large heavy coil all day I said forget this sh*t! I've seen another beeper that has the same setup with a Joey on a very short shaft along with the switch and does very well that way. If you can minimize weight, consolidated cables and minimize tangles etc you'll be good to go.

You mentioned that you didn't want a "rod-shaped" pinpointer - why is that?

here is a 'wireless' setup for a 4000
it consists of a CoilTeck Li-ion battery pack to Montana's single ext speaker and to a Detacc amplifier
the battery pack and the ext speaker both have wide clips, I epoxied 2 pieces of web belting to the case, the amp has velcro
I extended the shaft (not shown) to balance a 24x13 coil and put the box in a cutout water jug to keep it from salty sand
but adding the probe meant I had another cable back to me, not too terrible as I use the probe when the 4000 is down

the bungee cord is the problem

Cool setups guys icon_mrgreen.gif

I'm using the Pocket Rocket with the 7800 MAH batteries and they last all day, also tried a Bluetooth setup and it worked and then it was a truly wireless rig but the Bluetooth headphones were for more of home use and could not take an outdoor beating so for now I'm going with the Koss headphones and that's just one cord to deal with.

Laszlo has his rig almost identical to yours Beeper Beeper when he runs wireless except he too use the Pocket Rocket and I think the AZO speaker or the one Rob sells. I found one at Radio Shack that works just as well as any of the others and only costs $20.00.
Not even sure where it is right now have not used it in awhile but I'm quite sure this is it:

I think that Scott was referring to the Tesoro Silver Umax now that you posted that.

Bill got a question for you. Why did you mount your Pocket Rocket like you did? Just curious.
As you can see in the pic of my 3500 below I just slide it onto the sheepskin arm cuff I got from Doc about 5 years ago. Man that sheepskin cuff is nice!
If anyone is wondering about the ground in the pic below, yep, its frozen.

Pretty tired so I might have got off track a bit Various_Artists-sleeping.gif

Rod
yea, the sheepskin cuff was the first thing I bought
I put the battries on the side to better protect them, beach sand, moisture; your setup is more simple for sure

FWIW those battries and their chargers are on ebay if extras are desired (still have to buy the pocket rocket first)

WOW, a person sure gets a good reply on this forum! biggrin.gif I do want my 3000 wireless as well. Thanks for the information. singer.gif

That Uni-Probe looks very good but the 2 piece joined by a cable also looks cumbersome to carry around unless you have a pocket for it to carry it somewhere while beeping. I guess no worse and lighter than the small modified Tesoro with 4" coil. I thought of taking along the very simple, one control knob, Tesoro Compadre for pinpointing but try to carry it around all over as well. I know a fellow who has a 4500 with 18" Commander DD coil and his son carries a Tesoro Lobo ST and could poinpoint for his dad.

excl.gif (I suppose a person could tow a wheeled cart behind him while walking, icon_mrgreen.gif while metal detecting for gold, to carry all the accessories, pinponter, water, food, folding umbrella, folding table, folding chair, solar panel with a fridge full of cold water and beer with a TV to turn around and watch TV and sit down and have a break once in a while in the desert, hehehe.)

For a secondary pinpointer machine that Joey with a lower shaft on a CoilTek in-line switch from DOC is a good idea, I have the NF 5x10 mono and that will work. All I need is a Pocket Rocket LiIon set up and an in-line switch. Great photos of your units. There is something called Air Headz, wireless headphones as well. How well do they work does anyone know?? Various_Artists-walkman.gif
http://www.airheadzwireless.com/

I have a sheepskin cuff from DOC already with HD Claim Jumper bungee and Detacc Amp set up with external speaker from DOC. I had to modify the clip as the plastic broke and I made a metal clip for it. The external speaker from DOC that I have looks thicker than the one from Arizona Outback.

I see the Lucky Lark LiIon on Australia web sites and I do not know if it available here. I heard it is set up with built in signal amplifier?

(Looks too heavy to be mounted on a metal detector like the Pocket Rocket.)

You are right Mike C..., some people here say the Uni Probe is the best and deepest probe on the market...

Yes, the Uni-Probe and the CoilTek in-line probe BUT has anyone tried these completely waterproof Vibra-Probes before ?? Do you like them?
