Rod you are right. We should not expect you to trouble shoot our problems. You have done all of us a great service by developing these files. Thanks for your time in doing it and putting up with us. I figure as long as I have data for Alabama, I'm satisfied. In fact, by using your PP, I have found a placer registered about 4 mies from my house. Fancy that. Thanks again.

Anyone East of Big Muddy seeing anything showing up in NC, SC or GA? I kinda thought that since I'm getting info on AL that something would show in these other states. You would think that Crisson and Consolidated mines in GA would show.

Had nothing to do with your 'bridge'. It was GE. I got on their help section, then cleared all overlays and the X disappeared. Downloaded the new PP and all is fine :D
Shep

Hello Shep. Patrick in Lake Havasu here. I am having the same X problem. Can you give me a bit more detail on your GE fix?.....

Hey Rod,

How reliable is the info in the prospectors pack?

IE if it show no claim is it safe to prospect in that spot or if further research needed?

Its all data from the US Government - for accuracy questions contact the BLM, the data is from the Geo Communicator just parsed into Google Earth.

Wow! What a super app. I've only played with it a couple times but I'm really impressed. I wish it would work for Alaska. We have a decent mapper program from the state but yours is really slick. I do have one question. When showing the claims in the Quarter Section view what do the different colors of the claims mean?

I've noticed active claims were off slightly from the land status boundaries. The fix is simple. Right click on "active mining claims" and select properties. Add &reaspect=false to the end of the link, so the whole thing looks like this:

http://206.16.47.174:80/wmsconnector/com.esri.wms.Esrimap/BLM_MAP_MINING_CLAIMS?VERSION=1.1.1&REQUEST=GetMap&SRS=EPSG:4326&WIDTH=512&HEIGHT=512&LAYERS=Mining+Claims+-+Active&TRANSPARENT=TRUE&FORMAT=image/png&reaspect=false

I don't know if the version I'm using is Rod's newest. This may have already been fixed.

Yep its fixed

I just checked your newest kml and kmz versions (2010). Land status has &reaspect=false added to the end of the URL, but the active (and other) mining claims links don't.

Zoom in close enough with land status (called BLM lands) and active claims turned on, and you'll see the quarter sections indicating active claims don't line up. Add &reaspect=false and they do.

Thanks again for putting this together.

Flyingbrass
I want to thank you for your fix,it is spot
on and worked like a charm.

I contacted Rod a few days before,because I was
concerned that the guys relying on the coords taken
from the map could get into trouble. The claim
boundaries were several hundred feet off from true
location North to South.

Also the sections were a thousand feet short North
to South. I suggest that anyone with the version before
your fix do as you say. It is real simple and quick to
do and may keep someone from taking a shot at you.

Do the same fix with the township and range section
thingy. I tried it against known surveyed corners and
claims. It took about 10 seconds to know it was out of
kilter with known survey points on the ground.

My surveying is a lot better than my computer skills.
So thank you very much for the fix and computer lesson.

The fix is posted in this thread way back I mentioned it from the get go in post 4 on page 1 of this topic. Not sure how the code got dropped out, must have been a brain fart. That snippet of code is also part of BLM documentation.

Again, thanks for the feedback and calling this out, I've corrected it, re-uploaded the files. Its good to see others getting into this stuff on this level.

I just wanted to join the others in saying thanks for putting this together, it's a great tool!

Do you know if there is any way to cache a bunch of data so you can use it offline like when navigating in the field?

Thanks all.

I'd like to attempt to clarify what the Prospectors Power Pack is and is not.

It's not a program, Google Earth is the program.

Think of the Power Pack as a bridge, it connects you across the Internet to the island of BLM records. The kml and kmz files that make it work are the steel and concrete, the bridge itself. The kml version of the bridge is for all vehicles, the kmz trucks only, however there is no difference in the end destination.

It's impossible for me to act as techical support if it works on one of your computers but not the other, too many variables. Also the BLM does not provide data for all of the US, neither you nor I can change that.

Shep, did you get it working?

Another question from someone still in the fog..... Each time we connect to the BLM records, are they up to date? How often are they updated? Thanks again for your efforts Rod.
Dwight

Just sent out an email about this the other day. Until further notice downloads have been halted as it appears the BLM is no longer updating the feeds that make many of the features work, just seems to be old data. If this changes I'll make it available again.
