This classifier i use to classify all my shoveled in material to 3/8"..
When the 5 gal. bucket is full i just replace with another and keep going until i have 6-8 buckets full.
I then take the buckets to the drywasher and run them thru it.
I have a 3400 rpm motor 110 volt with 2 - 2 ounce counter weights , this vibrates the screen and breaks up the clay balls and shakes the heck out of the rocks , cleaning the nooks and crannies of all the gold stuck on them.. the cleaned rocks migrate slowly to one end and fall off. I can feed it quite fast with a shovel.
I did have metal sides on it at one time but replaced with some oak boards (to noisy with metal!!!!)
Another thing , it seems to dry the material somewhat, as it bumps and grinds on the screen. I have a small lip on the end where the rocks fall off, this spot catches the larger than 3/8" heavies (bullets, sinkers, etc...) no nuggets yet, but i hope some day i will..
I have found that this works a lot better than raking the bigger rocks out of your material, then using the drywasher griz. to classify. You get a lot more of the finer gold...thanks for looking , geoAttached Image: DSC00697.JPGAttached Image: DSC00698.JPGAttached Image: DSC00699.JPG

Nice machine , Hey Geo, that looks REAL interesting to me , I'd like to build something like that, can you maybe get a few more pics showing the detail on the motor area, how you rigged up the counterweights etc. ??? etc. And like what is the approximate size of it, length/width. Thanks

Frank (or anyone) if you come up with some sort of motorized classifier that can chew through the material let me know. I've looked and found... well pretty much nothing. I lack the mechanical aptitude or maybe I'm just too lazy... Either way I have yet to find a decent on or build it.

Wait I have seen one pretty cool set up when I was in Prescott but too big for me to store or build.

In fact if anyone has a "bigger and better" way to classify I'd love to hear it. My damn little bucket classifier is slow.

Thanks

I've got a few designs I've been kicking around using a concrete vibrator. There are gas powered ones but harbor freight has some electric models that aren't to much. The material could pass through the screen into a wheelbarrow which would also be your method of transport or it could drop into a bucket I guess....

Now that my brain is 1/2 functioning, I thought of a potential improvement to the classifier:
Add a squirrel cage fan with a variable speed control in the chute to blow away some of the light dust. It could help to concentrate the material before it ever goes through the drywasher.
I have a fan with cage over here... runs on 120V... if you want it. I grabbed it from a paint and body shop expecting to only use the cage, but went a different direction.

Standing screens...

They don't vibrate, but will classify material as fast as you can shovel. Different sizes for different applications. Note the small one in front. ..rf
