The contest will run for 60 days after the last item is listed, starting today one item per day will be listed.

Who can participate? Any member of this forum, does not matter if you join after the contest has started.

How it works?
Each item will have its own challenge to solve, a question, a guestimation etc. One guess per prize, per member, so you can concentrate on the item you really want or go for broke and try and win them all, personally I'd go for them all. With the one guess per member we're going to shake it up more, you can get a second guess provided that you post and revoke your first one then post promise to send the winner of that item $5.00 if you do not win that item on which your guess was revoked.

In the event of a tie, (two same guesses etc.) the first correct person wins.

This may be a long thread so when you post state the item you are competing for and your guess/answer so everyone can keep track,

So without further hoopla lets get started. We're going to shake it up a bit and list this as the first item:

A signed copy of Fists Full of Gold from our good friend Chris Ralph http://nevada-outbac...om/goldbook.htm. This is the bible of gold prospecting. I was lucky enough to get to preview and provide my opinion to Chris before he published, as were several other veteran prospectors and I tell you there is something for everyone to learn in this book.

Size 8" x 11" 362 pages.

Some of the highlights of the information contained in the book includes:

The basics of prospecting and finding gold, including:

The fact that there is lots of gold is still out there to be found
How to use a gold pan, including crevicing, mossing and sniping for gold
How to get the best recovery out of your sluice box or highbanker
How to use a suction dredge to find and recover paystreaks
How to operate a dry washer for gold
An extensive section on metal detecting, perhaps the best on the market

Building your own equipment: including building your own:
Portable sluice box
Lightweight suction dredge
Desert dry washer

How to operate a small scale commercial mining operation
How to deal with and get the most out of your black sands
How to get the best prices for your gold, specimens and nuggets

All about minerals and how to identify them
Minerals associated with gold deposits
Rocks: what they are and how to identify them
Basic geology for the prospector in an understandable form
A detailed explanation of placer geology and how paystreaks form
A detailed explanation of hard rock geology and how gold deposits form

How to do research to find your own rich concentrations of gold:

Where to find little known sources of information on gold deposits
How to use geology maps to find gold

Signs and indicators of gold deposits that you want to look for in the field

How to read and interpret signs of old timer workings
How to recognize geologic indicators of gold mineralization

How to prospect for commercial deposits of gold and silver

Plus hundreds of photos, diagrams and illustrations to explain the concepts presented in the book.

To win this prize you have to guess the combined weight of all items on the scale below. Think carefully, details as follows, 3 gold nuggets, 1 copper nugget, 1 piece of gold bearing quartz (micro gold) a fired 45 Long Colt Casing, a vial of water and gold, and a 1945 Liberty Half Dollar. Your guess must be in grams and to the tenth of a gram (11.7 grams), the correct or closest guess wins the book. Posted Image
