You may or may not be aware but there was a recent change in distributor ship in the US from SH Wallace & Co. based out of Australia.

In a surprise move by SH Wallace & Co. they terminated the distributorship belonging to "DOC" Lousignont of docsdetecting.com
Lousignont, a Las Vegas based propsecting supplier says he had 400 Walco picks on backorder when the termination occured.

"I had repeatedly asked what the hold up was on my order of picks as I have been waiting for three months." said Doc on one of his Coiltek distributors forums.

U.S. based consumer's emotions ran high

"As much as I would love to punch the PC Monitor screen, it wouldn't do any good" said Rob Allison of nuggethunting.com

"We all know the feelngs of being back stabbed and betrayed, something never forgotten.......E TU Brutus" chimed Dave Wiseman

The support for Lousignont was strong, with many offering suggestions:

"At 400 units on order, DOC could probably have some good quality picks made to his specks overseas." stated Reno Chris of nevada-outback-gems.com

"Se la vi...I guess it's time for Doc to use his manufacturing might and produce his own pick! It'll probably be even better!!!" said a poster known only as kamikaze

"As long as Doc is paying his bills....whats the problem with filling a customer order???" said Gary from hystware.com

I took as neutral of a stance as possible not having all the facts from both sides, "Well there are two sides to every story and we've only heard one, personally I'd like to here what SH Wallace (SHW ) has to say."

The story originally unfolded when Chris Gholson of arizonaoutback.com was recently in Australia and according to his own words "There really isn't much of a story to tell. While in Victoria I was invited to spend a day detecting with Cliff and Rob (owners of WALCO). Before we parted company that evening, they asked if AZO would be interested in selling the WALCO picks and I said YES."

Gholson continued "Cliff and Rob's dealings with Profile Prospecting are none of my business. The only thing I will say on the subject is that this company never had exclusivity here in the States. If WALCO no longer wants to deal with Profile Prospecting, then I am sure they have their reasons."

One prospector reasoned that if SH Wallace & Co. could not fufill Lousignont's orders how could they take care of Gholson:

"I have a question, and I'm not tring to be smart , or anything. But if DOC had 400 picks on order and they could not fill that one in several months, how are they going to service your orders? If they can't produce for him, how are they going to produce for you? Just a business question." said Gary B. also known as Grubsteak

Others stepped up to the plate to help in their own way with new ideas "As Grubby said, I thought up (and even made a couple) a good pick. Holds up better than any I've bought so far. Made out of a plow disc. Cost would be close to nil except the darn handles. I have no inclination to go into production, but would help (?) anyone interested. Maybe some one in the US will PM me." said Shep

Yet others wondered where Gholson's relationship with his current pick supplier was headed "Its funny how the other dealer who is getting the dealership says the Hoden is the best. I wonder if now they will change their website to say Walco is the best???" said poster identified only as claim jumper

What remains to be seen is any type of response from SH Wallace & Co.

Another U.S. pick manufacturer "JoeForTheGold" makes a pick known as a Hermit Pick (which in my opinion is the best pick on the market) and may have a prime opportunity to capture more of the pick market with many making positive statements in his favor based on an excellent product.

"I am curious to see what happens to the pick business given all the recent news. We will see." said Joe

Below is an actual picture of a Hermit Pick

It will be interesting to see what unfolds and the reactions from both home and afar or as our friends in Australia say "On both sides of the pond"

This is one prospector who wishes Doc all the best and remember kids you can "pick" your friends but not your family wink.gif

A Goolge Fight estimates that Lousignont will come out ahead:

Other popular website owners such as Bill Southern of nuggetshooter.com and Ted Scott of goldplacer.com have not made any comments as of yet

Great article Rod and timely as well.

Interesting to note that Greg Wilkins, CEO and President of Barrick Gold Corp. hasn't commented as of yet either. Who knows though. The weeks not up yet.

Well written report Rod....but kind of sad. I've been disappointed with C.G. for a long time. sleep.gif

I'm not a dealer anymore, but my only comment on this is there's a reason I only post and read this forum. Life is too short...let's be kind to each other!

As far as these pick go, I've used them all and they're all good. It boils down to a personal preference and what you can afford. Here's a pic of the three I have left from the shop. Prices range from about $40 to $100 (give a call) wink.gif .... rf

Heck, I still use an estwing most of the time.

I welded up a big heavy pick myself a couple years back....

Its heavy, but digs deep holes and works for me.
