Who We Are

Rod and Trace' Fitzhugh

I started out gold prospecting about 1984 - 85 in and around the Bradshaw Mountains. My buddies and I were just high school kids at the time and had a few pans and a lot of ambition. Our first gold came while camping out on Cow Creek near the Columbia turn off. Just a few flakes but it set off "gold fever". As the years went by the "fever" turned into "passion" and as we began to earn more and more money our arsenal of gold prospecting equipment grew also. I went from a pan, to home-made sluices my buddies and I would build, to Keene dredges and washers and metal detectors and spiral panners. We also made friends with some "old timers" who began to show us the ropes. We learned to pay attention to subtle details of our environment...geology and mineralization, plants that grew here but not there, and even smells of the earth as we dug. We also began to explore the mountains more and more and over the years we had made numerous visits to genuine old ghost towns and forgotten cabins stretched throughout the mountains of Arizona. After about 5 years of initial prospecting I was able to strike out on my own and make my way to new areas and find gold using the techniques I had learned and a few I modified and some I discovered myself. Now 19 years later I am a happy, very self-confident gold prospector who enjoys helping others learn how to find gold. I first met Trace' in 1992 and soon we were married and found our common love of the outdoors keeps us growing together stronger year after year. Below are some pictures of our adventures...Rod
